The 2nd Annual Earth Day Art Model Online Telematic Festival

The Earth Day Art Model Telematic and Media Festival, presenting an presents an exciting lineup of online music, art, and commentary, spanning 24 hours on April 22, International Earth Day. The festival will feature a wide range of music and arts, including electronica, electro-acoustics, telematics, punk, jazz and new classical, with a wide array of video works as well. Additionally, there will be several sessions highlighting current scholarly reflections of the earth from some of world’s leading innovators in the arts together with scientists and writers.

Earth Day Art Model is a global telematic event held on International Earth Day. The festival highlights current artistic perspectives that range from scientific observation to creative works of music and intermedia. This year’s theme, World Through Windows, serves as a metaphor for the myriad of panes, both physical and imagined, through which our world is perceived, particularly in this time of the pandemic. Over 24 hours, the festival will stream both live, online performances as well as fixed media by musicians, artists, writers, and presenters. Festival Director Scott Deal, Professor in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI, is a specialist in telematic art. Deal, together with his collaborator Chuiyuan Meng, developed Deck 10 Media, which offers customized web tools for artistic expression in sizes that range from a small gathering to events of thousands.  In 2011, Deal and composer Matthew Burtner won the coveted Internet2 IDEA Award for their co-creation of Auksalaq, an eco-acoustic telematic opera hailed as “an important realization of meaningful opera for today’s world”. 

Earth Day Art Model is sponsored and presented by Deck 10 Media, in cooperation with the Donald Tavel Arts Technology Research Center at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
